3rd Rock from the Sun, Season 1, Episode 12 "Frozen Dick"

“Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. That’s right, folks! This is the episode where the Solomons discover snow for the first time and overreact in a hilarious fashion. In “Frozen Dick,” Harry finds a job at a video store, and that gives Tommy an idea that all college students think about at least once in their lives- watch a film instead of reading a book for the term’s paper. Sally is all alone, afraid of the snow-but one of Dick’s students, Leon (played by Lithgow’s son, actually) gives her some company when he comes to drop off a paper. Finally, Dick and Mary are heading to Chicago to accept an award, but apparently Dick is afraid to fly.



This is one of the episode’s better episodes. It’s funny, heartfelt, and well-acted. The chemistry between Lithgow and Curtin gets better as each episode appears. I loved the idea of introducing snow to this family. I guess it is the end of the world for this family because of these frozen water pellets. Definitely a great episode!

The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) The James Bond franchise is one of those franchises that will never die. It has been going strong since the first movie rolled out in the early 1960’s, and new James Bond movies are still produced today. What makes this series unique is they use multiple actors to play the titular character over the years. They all bring their own gravitas to the role, and each Bond is a different man when compared to each other (although the martini, shaken not stirred and the beautiful women among other things remain a constant.) So my first James Bond review for this blog is 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me. This wasn’t my first look at the series, but it was my first look at the older movies. I really liked what I saw. This is an old-fashioned story that combines a spy drama and an action-packed war movie into one package. Like many of the older Bond movies, the story can get borderline preposterous. Unconquered (1947)

Unconquered (1947) Unconquered is one of those old, swash-buckling epics that came out during the era of epics during the 1940’s and 1950’s. Is it the greatest epic ever? Of course not, but all that matters to me was the entertainment factor of the movie. In that part, the movie succeeded. I had a fun time watching our main character, Chris Holden pick fights with the Natives, his fellow countrymen, and even the women. I’m not sure if this film is entirely historically accurate and some whitewashing may be prevalent, but does it really matter much? Especially in an older movie like this film? This film was filmed in technicolor , which of course added to the “expensive” budget, but it really gave definition to the epic as lighting and color techniques helped this film out.
