Black Lightning: Season 1, Episode 6 "Three Sevens: The Book of Thunder"

What an intriguing episode! Once again, politics is at a forefront in Black Lightning. “Three Sevens: The Book of Thunder” picks it up a notch. This is the episode we truly see how the law enforcement do NOT like Black Lightning. The police department was mobilized to take him down. If you remember from earlier in the season, Jefferson was stopped by these white cops. Can you imagine what it would be like if he was unmasked? Anissa took her superhero abilities to another level when she defaced a Confederate statue. This provided some excellent character development. Watching Anissa develop her superhero powers and use them for the greater good has been a joy to behold. Whether or not you believe politics have a place in a superhero show, the show’s creator Salim Akil obviously has things to say and he does not mince his words.



Jefferson uses this episode to hunt down his father’s killer, which we know is Tobias. With Tobias receiving pressure (a gift of Albino bone dust from Lady Eve), it might be in his best interest to make sure Black Lighting is dead for good. Peter Gambi, still being the mysterious man he is, decides to recruit Lynn to assist him. Whose side is he really on? Anissa staged a protest regarding a Confederate statue. Jennifer has some important decisions to make with Khalil. She loves him, but can she really be with him with his bitterness and motivation to join Tobias’s team?



The wheels are turning. I’m very interested to see what will happen as the season progresses. Many episodes are not as politically strong as this particular one. It seemed to bother some people, but it did not bother me. These messages, delivered through these striking images, are truthful and powerful. If you want action, there is some excellent action towards the end that does not disappoint.

The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) The James Bond franchise is one of those franchises that will never die. It has been going strong since the first movie rolled out in the early 1960’s, and new James Bond movies are still produced today. What makes this series unique is they use multiple actors to play the titular character over the years. They all bring their own gravitas to the role, and each Bond is a different man when compared to each other (although the martini, shaken not stirred and the beautiful women among other things remain a constant.) Table for Five (1983) I can guarantee that ninety percent of my readers here have not seen this tear-jerking melodrama 1983’s Table for Five , yet alone heard of it. Hopefully after reading my kind words, you will be somewhat intrigued by this movie. When doing my research for the film, I was shocked to see how vastly underrated the movie is. There are only a few reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, hardly any information on Wikipedia or Google-hardly anything out there in this vast Internet landscape. Then, why on earth is this movie so good?
