iZombie: Season 1, Episode 11 "Astroburger"

iZombie: Season 1, Episode 11 "Astroburger"

May 26, 2015

In some ways, “Astroburger” was a really funny episode. In other ways, it was also an incredibly painful episode, especially in terms of Liv and Major. As a zombie, Liv has eaten brains from different personalities. This episode, however, gave her a troubling persona and that happens to be paranoia and delusion. Some fun came out of the brain such as the crass Cheeto flame devil coming to life, although I felt like it might have been a tad overdone. However, she spent the episode becoming closer to Major and decided to tell him her secret…but that ended up as a hallucination. I felt so awful for Liz especially now that Liz is aware of Major’s knowledge that zombies exist. Yeah, I do not think their cuddly make-up will last long.

In this episode, Major decides to check himself out of rehab. He gets tied into the case of the week when Scott E, the person who told Major about zombies, apparently committed suicide. His brains result in tons of paranoia for Liz. Scott E also ties into Blaine’s operation as he helped Blaine sell Utopium and filmed Liz having a delicious brain meal at the boat party. Clive questions Major and learns there may be a computer file that would lead him to the actual killer. In other plot stories, Ravi may have found the cure since the rat is cured. Finally, Blaine has murdered astronaut Alan York for his special brains, so course he is on the missing list.

As we move towards the season’s finale, there is plenty to unpack. Each episode gets juicier as the moments fly by. Who will be the first to learn Liv’s secret? The always welcome Daran Norris returns as the weatherman, Johnny Frost (even if it was a fake image from Liv’s mind). Still, he was hilarious. Ravi and Peyton had a cute mini date. Major plans to kill every zombie and I love his One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest reference when asked about how he escaped the rehab center. This is another excellent episode!
