 iZombie: Season 1, Episode 13 "Blaine's World"

Spoilers Ahead!

“Blaine’s World” is a spectacular, action-packed finale to iZombie’s first season. Some questions have been answered, but even more questions are raised and shall be discussed within the second season. The episode allows both Major and Blaine to shine before the explosion that Lieutenant Suzuki set off at the Meat Cute. We almost got a happy ending for Liv and company…but poor Evan being in the wrong place at the wrong time, caught in the explosion. Her curse as a zombie came back to haunt her because she could not give out O-blood for obvious reasons. Really sad. But interesting storylines will be abound next season now that Blaine might have been cured from zombieism and Major is a zombie! Also, Major has some weaponry skills despite not being in control of any guns or weapons for long. Hmmmmmm.

In this finale, it starts off like any old episode. It involves the Super Max drink at Max Rager and the slimy Vaughn Du Clark. But that case plays second fiddle as it is made clear that the company is not the main priority…yet. Ravi has completed the cure but only has two doses and cannot make anymore due to limited supplies. Liv could take the cure…but there would be no show anymore without Liz as a zombie. Meanwhile, Major is locked up in Blaine’s freezer as Blaine sneers how he is able to keep Major alive thanks to meticulous research from the Nazis (ouch). Major will do anything to make sure he will not meet his end in Blaine’s freezer.

An excellent finale! As we move forward, I wonder what happens next. Blaine and Major switching zombie personas, how Peyton fits into the big picture especially considering Ravi and now aware of Liv’s secret, how Clive is still unaware of zombies existing, and of course how Liv will be affected from Evan’s traumatic accident at the Meat Cute. The biggest surprise this season was Major. How he went from Mr. abs and a past romantic foil for Liv to bigtime zombie hunter. The performances have been fantastic all around, but Rose McIver and Rahul Kohli share this season’s MVP awards.

My Grade: A+
